A move to make the Accelerated Reading Program available to all students in Tift County was approved by the Tift County Board of Education during its monthly meeting Tuesday night.

The program offers incentives and rewards for each book a student reads from a selected list. The student then gets one chance to pass a computer-generated test.

The books and computer will be housed at the Tift County Public Library located on Library Lane in Tifton.

The program was previously approved by the Tift County Library Board and the board of the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence, the sponsor of the program.

"We hope it's going to lead to overall reading improvement for the county," said Mike Brumby, representing the foundation.
